Retail sales growth up but still weak - CBI survey

The CBI's latest Quarterly Distributive Trades Survey shows that conditions on the high street have improved but retail sales growth is only modest compared with last year. Retail sales were higher in May than a year earlier; the second consecutive month of year-on-year growth following a poor start to 2003. 40% of respondents said that sales were up while 26% said they were down.
