The Council for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE) has launched a campaign to protect the character of the English countryside. CPRE have published a report, "Lie of the land", to coincide with this campaign, which analyses the importance and value of diversity in the English countryside and how it is becoming increasingly homogenised. The report explains how the character ca be surveyed and how this information can be used in management, planning and designing in the rural community.
