The DfT has launched a new initiative to create the first sustainable travel towns with prolonged reductions in car use and innovative travel options for citizens. Applications are welcomed from local authorities who face increasing problems of traffic congestion. A discussion paper has also been published with suggestions of how local authorities can improve conditions for walking.
