New legal duties for asbestos

Owners and occupiers responsible for maintaining all or part of their commercial property will need to set up and maintain a register listing of all areas where asbestos is present, find out its condition, assess the risk of fibres being released and inhaled by workers, and plan how to manage the risk. The Control of Abestos at Work Regulations Reg 4 becomes law on 21 May 2004 and preparatory work needs to be in place by then.
