The conference "Planning for Scotland's future" gave various speakers the chance to express their views on issues that should be considered in drafting proposals for a planning bill. Article provides an edited version of Gordon Steele's address (chairman of the Scottish Planning, Local Government and Environment Bar Group) and presents the results of a poll on issues raised by him that show a substantial majority in favour of planning reform. The views of delegates expressed at this and other events will be drawn together and submitted in a report to the Scottish Executive later this year. [Taken partly from journal headnote].
