Responsible environmental management of flood defence works during 2001-02 avoided the need to quarry over 560 000 m3 of virgin aggregates and reduced waste going to landfill by an average 40%. This was in projects managed by the Environmental Agency according to the agency. This message is being directed at the construction industry which the Agency says is one of the country's largest producers of waste.
