Experimental statistics for land use have been published for the Government Office Regions of London and the South East and five local authorities in Essex to support quality of life urban initiatives such as the Thames Gateway. The generalised land use classification categorises land features into nine themes and this provides the framework for the analysis of land use in four geographical/administrative areas.
