- 2003
- RICS Press Release (pr083) 12 August 2003 (3) .
The RICS has urged house owners to look out for signs of subsidence caused by the loss of water from shrinkable subsoil as a result of the hot, dry weather. Trees can exacerbate the problem. House owners are urged to notify their insurers immediately if they feel they have a problem. Building surveyors may well be part of the team involved in rectifying the problems. The RICS has produced a free brochure "What to do when the earth moves", available from the contact centre on t +44 (0)870 333 1600 to help the public deal with the issues associated with subsidence.
