Research by the RICS Building Cost Information Service forecasts that the cost of building in the UK could rise at double the rate of inflation over the next five years. This is good news for contractors but not for clients. The main impetus is expected to be public infrastructure projects (but not social housing). The forecast is based on the prompt release of public funds and the assumption that the Chancellor will stand by his commitment to expenditure on construction.
