Research councils, Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) and Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), have launched a £20m research programme, Rural Economy and Land Use (RELU), to develop future researched-based options for sustainable land use. They aim to create a programme over the next three years that will help to deliver modern, sustainable farming, protect the environment and achieve beneficial social and economic outcomes for people in rural areas.
