Examines the contradiction between the "Waste Strategy 20002 which refers to the 'important role' of recovering energy from waste and the Environment Minister's comments that government would not support any significant expansion of incineration. The targets contained in the strategy suggest that the UK could require up to 89 additional incinerators. Government appears to have distanced itself from the debate. Also examines in this context the results of five planning appeal cases for incinerators around the country.
