A coalition of environmentalists and planners spearheaded by the World Wild Life Fund (WWF) and the Town and Country Planning Association is demanding the planning system and building regulations must be overhauled. The Sustainable Housing Forum argues that the regulations fail to tackle the environmental impact of building materials, energy and water consumption. It advises that regional and local plans should require that all developers reach the Building Research Establishment's EcoHomes 'very good' rating.
