Examines the duty of property owners, occupiers and managers to identify and control asbestos-containing material buildings, with a duty to manage becoming part of health and safety legislation on 21 May 2004. Looks at the rising incidence of asbestosis-related diseases contracted during maintenance work and the recognition that all asbestos types are carcinogenic. Highlights the difficulty of identifying asbestos-containing material, especially where asbestos is combined with other material, and the appropriateness of an asbestos management plan rather than removal.
