October's retail sales' performance was much stronger than expected, rising at the fastest year-on-year rate for 18 months, with a 35% net balance of retailers reporting sales up on the previous October. The underlying trend shows sales growth at its strongest for 11 months with growth in all but one of the retailing sectors.
