The "Halifax house price index" for October shows house prices rising by 1.2% with annual house price inflation standing at 16.7% compared to 24.5% at the same time last year. The average house price (seasonally adjusted) is £137 780. The predicted 0.25% increase in bank base rates will have only a modest effect on the housing market.
