A renewed commitment to tackling housing problems is made by Scottish Executive ministers. The Deputy Communities minister, Mary Mulligan, argued that the sector must not focus only on the number of new houses but also sufficient housing of the right size, type and quality. Six challenges were highlighted that need to be addressed including how much new affordable housing should be provided for social rent and how much through low cost home ownership initiatives.
