CABE publishes statement on urban design codes

CABE publishes statement on urban design codes - 2003 - CABE Press Release 20 November 2003, (2) .

Building Sustainable Communities: the Use of Urban Design Codes, a new CABE think-piece is launched which is an attempt to guarantee high quality urban design in housing growth and urban renewal areas. The think-piece examines urban coding and illuminates some of the key questions posed, such as how might codes work best in the UK. It recommends that the government should proceed with caution in expanding the use of codes with a balance struck between ensuring the basics are right such as street width and distances between buildings but are not too prescriptive because they may smother creativity.
