This brief article examines the role of the expert witness in court, and some possible problems construction professionals might consider when becoming expert witnesses. Considers two construction cases that featured expert witnesses and their negative experiences. "Carpenter v Pembrokeshire CC" ([2002] EWHC 1968, unreported) had a civil engineering expert, whilst "Pearce v Ove Arup Partnership Ltd and Others" (ChD, Abs57376) had an expert architect witness.
