The revised "Planning policy statement 6 (PPS6): planning for town centres" has been launched and is out to public consultation until 15 March 2004. The policy encourages retailers to develop in town and city centres rather than build new stores in out-of-town locations. PPS6 is intended to replace PPG6 in due course.
