The HM Treasury has decided to extend the powers of the Financial Services Authority (FSA) under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000 to include the regulation of mortgage lending, sales and administration and general insurance sales and administration. Mortgage regulation is changing on 31 October 2004 and general insurance regulation on 14 January 2005. Estate agents may be covered by the mortgage regulations and property managers who administer insurance will be covered by the general insurance regulations.
