Five barriers to sustainable brownfield development
Williams, K.
Five barriers to sustainable brownfield development - 2003 - Town & Country Planning 72(11) December 2003, 344-345(2) .
Reports on the findings of research undertaken by Oxford Brookes University which looks at the extent to which sustainability objectives have been incorporated into developments on brownfield sites. Focuses on five case studies of recently completed residential and mixed-use brownfield developments. The sites were chosen at random with the exception of the Beddington Zero Energy Development (BedZED) which was chosen for its sustainability credentials. The research investigated the involvement of different stakeholders in the development process. Concludes that very few sustainable objectives were achieved in the developments, with the exception of BedZED, and identifies five key reasons for this failure.
