Producing the goods - 2004 - Inside Housing 21(5)6 February 2004, 24-25(2) .
Asks whether REITs, possibly to be introduced in April 2005, will facilitate the creation of a new private rented sector?. Looks at previous attempts to boost private renting and develop the private rented sector: the original assured tenancies, business expansion schemes, housing investment trusts, buy-to-let and the corporate private rented sector such as the City Centre Apartments for Single People at Affordable Rent schemes. Suggests how a REIT might work in partnership with a housing association. Concludes that REITs would provide the tax-efficient approach that the property industry views as essential for a new corporate private rented sector to take off.
