Provides an up-to-date overview of the EU legislative process from the approval of directives to their adoption as part of member states' national legislation. Reviews recently adopted and developing legislation relevant to the property sector. Although the EU has no remit to legislate for property directly, it can do so indirectly in areas such as mortgage credit, landfill, VAT and procurement. Looks at some of the key current proposals such as the freeing-up of cross-border services, public private partnerships, the capital adequacy of banks and the imminent third money laundering directive. Examines the difficulties of implementing directives covering insurance mediation, environmental liability, landfill and energy efficiency. Explains why RICS has a Brussels presence and why it gets involved in EU policy-making at an early stage in its development.
