Emphasises the importance of soil and nutrient planning following the EU's water framework directive (Diretive 2000/60/EC). The Environment Agency has set up a scheme to assess the risk of soil erosion and diffuse pollution on farms. A number of pilot schemes examine the level of risk for soil type, slope and proximity to a water course or road.
