Reports on the growing trend of combining retail and housing as superstores add homes to their schemes in order to gain access to brownfield sites and planning permission for new developments. Gives examples of this type of development such as Tesco's new store which is currently under construction in Clapham consisting of a ground floor store with 104 flats above and the Pimlico Village Scheme in Victoria consisting of a Sainsbury's supermarket, private apartments and affordable/social housing units. Tesco has similar schemes already up and running at Hammersmith and Kensington in partnership with housing associations.
