Operators contest controls
Early, C.
Operators contest controls - 2004 - Planning (for the Natural and Built Environment) (1580) 30 July 2004, 16(1) .
Assesses the consultation record of mobile phone operators in their applications for mobile phone masts in the light of the recent All Party Mobile Group (ApMobile) report (see Absxxxxx). The Mobile Operators Association (MOA) insists that its members have greatly improved their consultation record over the last three years and ApMobile acknowledges that the operators' voluntary code is worthwhile when implemented properly. MOA argues that it is not the planning regulations that need changing but rather the way in which planning authorities work with the industry. A survey by MORI of council planners about aspects of base station planning reported favourably about the performance of MOA members but pointed out planning officers relative lack of telecommunications knowledge. MOA is against the revocation of base station permitted development rights. Discusses some of the recommendations of the ApMobile report.
