Inflation falls

Inflation falls - 2004 - National Statistics Press Release 13 October 2004 (2) .

The latest figures from the Office for National Statistics show that CPI inflation fell to 1.1% in September 2004, down from 1.3% in the previous month. The fall in inflation was driven partly by reductions in the cost of transport services and partly from increases in the price of foreign holidays and furniture. Mortgage interest payments also increased in September, as lenders reacted to August's quarter percentage point increase in base rates. This helped to limit the reduction to RPI inflation, which fell to 3.1% in September 2004 from 3.2% in August. http://www.statistics.gov.uk/cci/nugget.asp?id=19
