Looks at the effect of the ban on co-disposal since the implementation of the landfill directive (Directive 99/31/EC). The increased cost of disposing of hazardous waste may lead to businesses using rogue operators. The Environment Agency lacks any real power to enforce the legislation and there is a lack of legislative clarity which leaves the law open to abuse. Concludes that businesses must understand more about hazardous waste and how they can minimise the amount they produce and how to treat it.
