Reviews some of the specialised activities involved in coastal surveying and looks at future areas of development. An increased interest in the coastal zone, its appropriate management and optimal use, have strengthened interest in coastal surveying both above and below the waterline. Trade, development, mineral resources and tourism bring conflicting pressures into an environmentally vulnerable area.
