Reports on the Landfill Allowance Trading Scheme (LATS) which allows surplus biodegradeable waste to be traded between local waste disposal waste authorities. The landfill directive (Directive 99/31/EC) aims to reduce the amount of biodegradeable waste sent to landfill. In the UK, each authority has been given an annual allowance. To assist in reaching the UK targets for reduction, government has introduced LATS.
