Reports on the broad welcome given to the government decision to revert from mid-January 2005 to the former six-month deadline for lodging planning appeals, moving away from the three-month deadline introduced in September 2003 as a streamlining measure. This had in fact undermined the quality of planning decisions, put too much pressure on planning staff and was responsible for an exponential rise in planning appeals.
