The challenge of sustainability

The challenge of sustainability - 2005 - RICS Business February 2005, 12-13(2) .

Questions whether the private sector can rise to the challenge of helping to create truly sustainable development within Britain's designated growth areas. The public sector, even with its awareness of the extra value that sustainability and the eco-homes initiative will deliver, is also under pressure to meet volume demand with finite budgets. Also introduces "Mind the gap: tackling social polarisation through balanced communities" (J128354), the RICS report on increasing social polarisation in Britain in the context of creating sustainable communities. Provides a case study of a sustainable urban community, Grand Union Village in Greenford, west London and points to the work of the RICS Sustainability Group.
