Reports on the effects of changes to the Building Regulations 2000 Approved Document P which now covers electrical work done in the home. The local authority building control officer has to be informed when certain activities such as putting in extra power points into a kitchen, are carried out. Notes that there are two types of people who are able to carry out such work: one is limited to doing electrical work only if it is necessary when carrying out other work and the other is certified to do all work. Both should be registered with a competent person scheme.Warns that selling a property may be difficult if the correct safety certificates cannot be produced.
