Considers the principle provisions of the Housing Act 2004 in this "Mainly for students" article: the establishment of a new system for assessing housing conditions and new enforcement powers for local housing authorities (LHAs) (Part I), licensing for houses in multiple occupation (Part 11), selective licensing applicable to all private rented accommodation within specific areas (Part 111) and LHA management orders (Part IV). Concludes that the Act, which will be fully implemented over the next year or more, introduces stricter regulation of private sector housing as well as addressing wider housing issues. To make these changes effective will require a major readjustment by those involved in housing and housing management.
