Describes the formation of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) which has just assumed ownership of all British Nuclear Fuel (BNFL) and UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) sites. Clean up projects will dominate the £50bn budget the NDA has to spend over the next 40 years in this first nationally unified approach to decommissioning. The BNFL and UKAEA will continue to run the sites on a day to day basis until the site management licenses are put out to tender.
