Discusses the Charities and Trust Investments (Scotland) Bill which will allow Scottish charities to invest in commercial property. Charities in England and Wales can already invest in commercial property since the introduction of the Trustee Act 2000. Previously charities were restricted by the trust deed, drawn up at the time of the charity's foundation, could only buy leasehold or freehold property and could not sell with out permission from the Charity Commission nor enter into joint ventures.
