- 2005
- Agreement 12(2) April 2005, 12-13(2) .
Discusses the results of recent research by the Association of Residential Letting Agents (ARLA), surveying member firms on the sources of rental property and the types and lengths of tenancies. Key findings are: the average length of tenancies is 15 months with the majority of them arranged as assured shorthold tenancies; 44.2% of tenants stay in the same property for between 13 and 18 months; buy to let investments constitute nearly 60% of all properties coming to the rental market; and landlords letting their own homes supply over 25% of the properties coming on the market with only 10% belonging to corporate landlords. Also comments on the latest quarterly survey of ARLA letting agents, Paragon Mortgages report on rents and yields and the Council of Mortgage Lenders' figures on the number of buy to let landlords unable to meet their mortgage payments.
