Putting heart back into the campus in the city - 2005 - Town & Country Planning 74(5) May 2005, 172-173(2) .

Looks at the changing thinking on the form, use, development and identity of the real estates of UK higher education institutions. Research to date has focused on higher education's contribution to local and regional job creation, income and export earnings but attention is now being directed on the universities' role in regional development and the complex relationship between university and host city or region. University managers in a more entrepreneurial university system now have to think strategically about real estate strategy and to develop an interest in their universities' physical fabric. Higher education institutions occupy about 750 sites covering an area of around12 500 acres. Examines the University of Dundee as an example of the campus in the city concept and how it affects its host city. Graph covers total number of students in higher education 1965-2003. Notes.
