Colby, Allyson

Open to security - 2005 - Estates Gazette (0533) 20 August 2005, 65(1) .

Discusses the impact of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) on Land Registry practice and specifically, the treatment of exempt information documents (EIDs). The protective regime, whereby transitional provisions documents lodged at the Registry prior to 13 October 2003 have been kept off register unless edited and designated as EIDS, ends on 13 October 2005. Advises that designation as an EID should be used sparingly. FOIA has ensured that applicants to the Registry can now conduct searches to ascertain what property interests companies and other non-individuals own although disclosure conditions in respect of title information relating to private individuals remains unaffected.
