Reports on the activities of COST Action C17, a four-year programme to encourage European co-operation in addressing the protection of historic buildings from fire. The group was formally launched in December 2002, and has 20 members, including the UK. Four interlinked expert working groups have been established, which meet on a regular basis. It is hoped that by the end of the programme methodologies and management systems will be in place to assist end-users in balancing fire engineering needs with the conservation requirements of historic buildings.
