Bryant, Paul
Defence of the realm - 2005 - Fire Prevention Fire Engineers Journal 65(261) October 2005, 25-27(3) .
Discusses the fire risk to heritage buildings, and the actions needed to safeguard them. No thought was given to fire risk when the buildings were designed, so that they are often constructed of highly flammable materials and have extremely combustible furnishings and interiors. A fire safety engineer should carry out a thorough risk assessment of such a building, paying particular attention to the use of the building, the impact of fire detection and alarm systems on the architecture, and the suitability of fire suppression systems, with regard to the fabric and contents of the building.
