Reports on the growth in construction output in the North East of England, which has exceeded that in the rest of the country for the last four years. There is evidence that this growth is leading to tender inflation above the national average, as both contractors and sub-contractors become more selective. Fears have been expressed that this inflation will jeopardise the viability of some projects, and lead to the reappraisal of development proposals.
