Discusses the results of a recent study "Immobilien Spezialfonds, Darstellung und Analyse" on Germany's property spezialfonds. This attempts to rationalize the method by which investors select which spezialfond to invest in, via the creation of a formula which allows cross-comparisons of the funds' performance over a specified time frame. Analyses the performance of 38 spezialfonds between 2001 and 2003, discrediting the view that bigger funds outperform smaller ones because of efficiency gains and also that higher gearing will boost returns.
