RICS has won an important victory in its long-running battle with the Treasury and the Financial Services Authority over the regulation of property managers and building surveyors - they have won the right to licence the industry and reduce bureaucracy. The institution is to be awarded 'designated professional body' status by the Treasury, giving it the authority to licence surveyors for insurance activities. RICS has devised its own system of regulations for insurance which promises to be a much simplified version of the Financial Service Authorities existing practice.
