The Construction Law Committee of the City of London Law Society has drafted a standard form of letter of intent. The letter identifies the scope of the works to be carried out, sets a time limit for its own operation, provides a financial cap on employer's liability, identifies matters that are agreed and still to be agreed, establishes a contractual framework for works to be carried out and administered, and provides a fall-back position if contract negotiations break down.
