Provides a briefing on the changes to the late payment legislation enacted by the Late Payment of Commercial Debt Regulation Act 2002 which took effect from 1 November 2002. The Act extended the right to claim interest on late payment of commercial debt to all businesses and introduced compensation charges. Suggests that although there is a general awareness of the Act there is some reluctance to use it in practice in case customer relationships are damaged. Recommends using the Act as an integral part of business terms.
