Opening doors - 2006 - Law Society's Gazette 103( 06) 9 February 2006, 18-19(2) .

Looks at the solicitor-as-estate agent concept pioneered in Scotland by the Edinburgh Solicitors Property Centre (ESPC) as it spreads south of the border. ESPC acts a one-stop shop offering estate agency, conveyancing and financial services advice. Although the English version of ESPC, Solicitors Property Shop, has since its launch in 1998 made slower and less successful progress than expected, suggests that the concept will gain in popularity as solicitors gear themselves up to the launch of compulsory Home Information Packs (HIPs) in July 2007. Details the problematic aspects of the concept. Notes however that the Law Society plans to market its own HIPs solution to solicitors.
