Building regulations provide that any construction, extension or underpinning of a building over or within 3m of an existing sewer or drain need to comply with rules on imposed loads and access. This article looks at the technical and financial problems encountered by purchasers of a property who found that a small extension they wished to build fell foul of these regulations.
