With the Housing Corporation aiming to increase the proportion of schemes incorporating modern methods of construction to 45 percent, the chief buyer at Durkan argues that these methods need to evolve further before they become really cost-effective. At present, expensive handling equipment is required to lift them on site, and breakages are almost inevitable, both of which have obvious cost implications.
