Reports on the new EU structural design codes known as Eurocodes and argues that everyone involved in development will need to have a thorough grounding in them. The familiar British Standard structural design codes will be replaced in 2010 by Eurocodes and the transition period starts in 2006. The Eurocodes are pan-European structural design codes for building and civil engineering works and are designed to harmonise technical specifications. Looks in detail at the structure of the Eurocode system and the headcode (EN 1990) and highlights where the codes don't apply.
